Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Hai is a lovely movie on friendship. The age-old controversy on 'Can a man and a woman ever be "friends"?' Especially, when the movie opens with the lead couple being attracted to each other. What starts as a moment begins to grow into a deep strong bond of friendship. An unusual friendship in which one desperately, helplessly, compulsively, still loves the other in a romantic way but all he can get is friendship. But he's not sad, because, after all this love is all his. And he is at peace. The character graph is amazing throughout the film on how he grows, eventually, to come to terms with consent and reciprocation. He enjoys and finally celebrates one-sided love.

It may seem funny to you as you'd wonder what kind of difference could a commercial entertainer aiming to please everyone alive have possibly made to Indian cinema. But hold behold, have you seen a typical Bollywood movie that does not claim to be Indie or art, and yet has the heroine not settling for the best friend who loved her throughout the movie? That, is a huge statement. A thought-provoking statement. A truly realistic societal mirror statement. A reflection of the real Indian human society. Why isn't it true for everyone? For every part of the world? People do fall in love, don't they? And what is the guarantee that the first attempt ends up being mutual? It is actually possible to be on the same bed and not have sex, shivering in cold winter, sitting by the fire, drinking and talking. What Ae Dil Hai Mushqil managed to do interestingly, is the PEACE despite the sheer absence of reciprocation of his love.
Ayan Sanger (Ranbir Kapoor) is essentially, the anti-Dev Das, or at least learns to be everything opposite of Dev Das. He does not lose himself because of the love. ❤️️Rather he ends up finding himself.
Junoon - Obsession
For a long time in Indian cinema, we have been made to believe that junoon means obsession as in Shahrukh Khan in Darr. Junoon is not only used for deep helpless compulsive love for a human but also for passion as a professional vocation, etc. But, here in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil story, that's not the case.Junoon here does not mean obsession because Alizeh was still able to break up with her cheating boyfriend and was living her life despite it. She even moved on to a different relationship where the man also cheated on her. 💔While we are made to laugh in comedic humour when she finds him cheating with the funny character Lisa Haydon plays inside a cramped bathroom, the torment she'd have gone through is unfathomable. This was happening to her in her second chance. Alizeh is desperate and restless. She wants to fill her schedule with so many things she can take her mind off some of these deep hurtful issues breaking her heart.💔
Suqoon - Peace
In all this doom, she finds Ranbir Kapoor as her friend. Friendship is pure and comforting. Although the opening scene of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Hai shows Alizeh romancing with him but it didn't work out. They never did anything sexual. She instead converted the lack of a spark to a loving friendship. This friendship brought to her life, suqoon (that means PEACE).

You would warmly walk into those hands feeling safe.

A no is a no. And you gotta deal with it. But let's explore the depth of the lyricist who penned down such beauty into the song. It is shocking on how intense Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is, although it didn't seem so. Just like Raanjhna, the movie does not revolve around one person only. The left aashiq is seen messing around with other women, but still has the hurt deep inside. How is it possible to love another soul above everything else? Are we still capable of loving someone so much in today's modern times?
